I want to learn both, and I know the two are similar. If I learn one, is the other basically the same?

and what about the mandolin?

They are basically the same–although violins are usually of higher quality. Izak Perlman plays blue grass on his violin. I think it would be more about learning how to play two different types of music more than the instrument.

And a mandolin is a stringed instrument more like a banjo/guitar–you’d have to develop new callouses and learn how to pick strings rather than using a bow–that would be different.

I just got a fiddle and I am having trouble finding places to get lessons online and the ones that I do find are WAY too much for my budget.

Any local music stores might have lessons. If you play by ear just keep listening to people play and try to pick up some stuff. Thats how I learned to play the guitar.

I am 15 and learning to play the fiddle. I have been trying to learn since I was 8 but for some reason I was always busy. All of my uncles can play and I will be the youngest one to be playing and I am so eager to play. So…

- do you know a link or just want to name – a song and the chords/ strings? ( not sure of ‘the talk’ yet haha)

- is there a way to turn guitar tabs into fiddle tabs? Like is there one note that is equal to the other on different instruments?

I see no reason why you can’t use bass tabs but heres a fiddle tab site.

I use ultimate guitar tabs which also has bass tabs.

Good luck!

I would really love to learn, and realize practice will terrify the cats for a while.

if ya wanna play bad enough you can learn the basics, and then it’s up to you..fingering is fairly easy to learn(plus you can use the same fingering for other stringed instruments!)…BUT proper bow technique is a b**** to get used to! And that’s the name of the game with the fiddle.I’d put fingering about a 5 and bow about 9 or l0 to command!

Will American’s have more pressing concerns then these 2 issues that never are impacted one way or the other in any significant way?

Hi

These two issue decide the vote for many people. As the Democrats know enough not to do anything stupid at this time, they will not be a major factor. The Democrats learned the last time that they did strong gun control under Clinton, and then saw their position destroyed.

Those people that have strong opinions will vote to support their base. The Republicans can count on the pro gun vote, and the anti abortion vote. The Democrats can count on the anti gun vote, and the pro abortion vote.

The deciding factor in the 2010 election will be the rampant government failure to deal with the recession. The Democrats will loose control of both the House and Senate. In all likelihood, they will loose the Presidency in 2012. Realize that if the Republicans take control of the House and Senate in 2010, the entire Obama / Acorn / voter fraud thing from the 2008 election will come under Congressional scrutiny. There will be hearings, and many people will go to jail. There is even a slight chance that Obama will end up impeached and in jail, the issue being his legal ability to be President.

my stings break if i play too much:(

i play almost everyday anywhere from 1 – 3 hours. Check into some different strings – a good middle of the road string is Helicore, higher end strings such as Evah Pirazzi and Obligato are great. I’d stay away from Dominants – they don’t have that great of a tone.
