Is it easy to teach myself how to play guitar from a book or DVD?

by admin on November 30, 2009

I’ve been wanting to learn how to play guitar for the longest time, and I have a guitar because my brother plays. He also has a tab book that teaches the fingerings. Would it be difficult to teach myself that way without a proper guitar teacher? I can read music because I play piano as well, but I just need some advice on this…
And if you know of any websites that would be helpful for this, please give them to me. That would be great. Thanks!

a DVD is ur best bet. they talk you thru it where as with a book u have to understand it by urself. definately try the dvd first then if that doesnt work try the book. :)
good luck!!

While playing guitar is not an easy thing to do it can be done. I taught myself simply by a chord chart book ,of course,we didnt have computers in those days. Ive seen many sites that show guitar chords and chord patterns and that may be a better way to begin then tabs. Good luck, most of all enjoy.

The only substitute for a live teacher is video. DVD’s are great, but why pay money when there’s lots of free lessons online?

This site offers lessons for beginners and assumes you know nothing or close to nothing. There’s lessons on tuning, chords, scales, techniques and uses videos and photos.

I learned the basic stuff from a book called "the easiest ever guitar book" (you can get it on amazon) but i learned basic chords from that. The rest i learned from youtube and websites like that. Good luck! hope i helped!
