If I learn to play the violin, will the fiddle be much different?

I want to learn both, and I know the two are similar. If I learn one, is the other basically the same?

and what about the mandolin?

They are basically the same–although violins are usually of higher quality. Izak Perlman plays blue grass on his violin. I think it would be more about learning how to play two different types of music more than the instrument.

And a mandolin is a stringed instrument more like a banjo/guitar–you’d have to develop new callouses and learn how to pick strings rather than using a bow–that would be different.

they are about the same. like the violin and bass, you can play both if you learn to play only one of them.
