He glued a padded board to the top to cushion his knee. Under the padded board were two long ropes he tied over his shoulder to hold on the wooden peg leg. He bound his bent leg back with two belts, then had an assistant help him into his baggy white pants with one leg of the pants cut off just below the knee. The bent back leg was covered by his pants and billowing overcoat.
