Check your contract. Most contracts specify the days and hours of the week that are required for work. Most public school unions wouldn't include any stipulations that you randomly be assigned to monitor after school rehearsals (unless the kids get out at 3pm and your work day doesn't end until 4pm or something, in which case it isn't surprising) and it would be pretty surprising if they required your participation on Sundays. When I was in the NYC teaching union, people basically walked out if a meeting went past the time that they were required to stay according to their contract. We NEVER had to come in on a weekend.

If you aren't part of a union, though, there might be something that says "And other extracurricular duties as required...." or something that might cover this kind of thing. I teach at a private school now, and it isn't unusual for weekend activities to be scheduled that I need to rearrange my schedule for. If you are at a non-union school, contact your principal and let them know that you don't feel comfortable with the additional requirements. If you are at a union school, check your contract and then talk to your union rep.
References :
Of course it is. They're required, by law, to monitor the children when they're on school premises at all times. If there's a large number attending the rehearsal, they might assign more.
This is to protect the school legally, but also to protect the students should something happen.
