Heck yes, you should play the violin!
I've been playing for 8 going on 9 years now, and I absolutely love it.
It's a big commitment if you want to do well, but definitely go for it if it's something you want to do.
You could even just rent one for a while and see how you find it.
Let me know if you need any help getting started!
(But don't worry about picking it up; you're Asian, lol).
References :
if you feel the urge to learn to play, then there is no reason why you shouldn't pick it up.

a good quality instrument is a serious investment though. My violin is a Gotz that my parents bought for me 9 years ago. the instrument alone was $2200. The bow and case brought the total to $3000.

look into renting from a sting shop in your area and while you are there ask them about private instructors.

you really should only buy an instrument after you've been playing for a while so that you can pick one that is right for you tonally and in feeling.

best of luck to you.
References :
have been playing violin for 16 years

Absolutely!
I've been playing the violin for 6 years now and I find it really enjoyable. It was quite easy to pick up when I first started, so that was one of the things I really liked about learning violin. It's not too loud, which is another great quality and it has a beautiful sound.
Hope you choose to learn the violin! :D
References :
Don't waste your time on some violin. I say you should wait till you get to the point when your so old you could barely walk to play a violin. But i wouldn't even do it for a spare time, and i know it is your favorite instrument. But think about it, picking up a violin would make your path even more boring. Trust me, i played the violin back in grade school. It was so BORING. I say you should play a Guitar or the Piano. those will brighten up your life. Well Good luck chosen.
References :
Why is it your favorite instrument? have you actually had any experience playing one, or do you just like the sound. If you really feel an attachment to the violin, then go for it. but learning any instrument does take a lot of commitment though. I started violin lessons like 5 years ago, when I was in middle school, and i'll say, learning the violin takes a lot of time, everyday! why don't you start with a cheap violin and give it a try, who knows until you give it chance?
References :
If you really want to, you definitely should. It's a beautiful instrument, it really is.
I will warn you though, for me, and many other people I know, the violin is an extremely difficult instrument. Not for everyone, but as with all instruments, it will take patience, practice and you must be able to fit it into your schedule somehow.

I took violin a few years back, around the same time I started playing guitar. I ditched the violin cause the guitar came to me, like it was something I was supposed to do. And if I wasn't such a little dork, and if I wasn't so busy learning guitar, I would totally pick the violin back up.

I wish you good luck with the violin, or any other instrument you decide to play!
