Yeah.

1. Well obviously. You need a violin.
I'd say rent one. It would be the best Idea to save money.
So if the lessons don't work out, or violin isn't for you, you can return it. And you'll save money. After getting use to it, get your own violin.

2. Buy books, violin books. I suggest (The ABC's of Violin for the Beginner, OR Suzuki Violin School - Volume One).. BUT REALLY. You SHOULD get Suzuki. MORE known!

3. Online Video Time! :)

4. Practice. Seriously. Use what you've learned online and apply it to your book. (Suzuki STYLE! :) )

5. Practice. Listen to the songs on youtube, of professionals playing it. And make sure you look at bowing, position, fingering, timing, EVERYTHING. Every TINY detail is essential to your playing.

p.s. Violin is a toughie. I Strongly suggest you try REALLY hard to find a teacher. It would be SO much more efficient if you get one for two or even one year before you go off on your own.
References :
I assume from your question that you are wanting beginner level instruction for the violin. So I will introduce you to the online course I recommend for my beginner students.

Eric Lewis has a very good collection of online videos that cover comprehensive methods starting at the beginning level and progressing to intermediate levels and beyond. It starts with reading sheet music and is a rock solid, tested course that has been teaching violin students since 1988.

BTW, Eric Lewis is 1st violinist for the Manhattan String Quartet and has been a world renown master violinist for decades. He has pioneered many of the most successful teaching methods for learning the violin, which are widely used today. You can access his online video course here:
